People are scared of sharks. The press portays them as cold blooded man-eaters, but in reality they only kill between 5 to 15 people each year - much less than the number killed by dogs, snakes or collisions with deer. Contrast that with the number of sharks killed by humans - somewhere between 20 and 100 million each year. Shark finning and over-fishing are driving many shark species towards extinction. We should be scared for sharks.
